Pollinator Garden, Forest Hill, Toronto
Design Process
The ground was broken up as the soil is comprised of mainly clay and silt having been infilled from when the house was constructed. Existing grass was removed to make room for a pollinator garden. Cedar mulch was spread and in the first seasons winter existing plant matter was left to decompose. The goal is to build up the soils OM (organic matter). A small water feature was added for the birds and bee’s to have access to water in the summer months. Existing female Gingko Biloba Tree, with a Japanese Maple in the background in front of the existing evergreen hedge. Year two growth: Lavender sp., Desert Yarrow, Creeping Jenny, Echinacea sp., Bee Balm spp., Black Eyed Susan and Little Blue Stem.
